The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both.   James A. • How do I choose a custom wall design?

It helps to pick something like an inspiration piece for the room - in this case, the wall was designed around the plate!  The glazes were matched with the plate artwork...then stencil art added, and expanded upon with a sand-texture.

Other factors involved would be style of furniture and/or style of home.   Either way you begin - PLAN ahead of time  what colors appeal to you, as well as any architectural interest the room may have.

Whether your style is conventional, antique, country, european or asian - there is a faux finish available!  If budget allows, I would recommend talking with an interior designer to assist you with your choices.

  • Synthetic Versus Real Lime Based Venetian Plaster

    Choose wisely:

You can walk into Home Depot and purchase something called "Venetian Plaster".   This material can be applied with a spatula and polished to a relatively high sheen. So what's the big deal about Lime based plaster anyway? Isn't it about the same look? Who cares if it is real or synthetic?

Not Fade Away: While synthetic Venetian plasters made by paint companies may look somewhat similar to the real thing at first,  it's been our experience that these synthetics will ultimately fade and become "tired" looking over time. Just like painted walls will fade and not look fresh after a couple of years or so. Synthetic Venetians are more closely related to paint generally than to stone like real Venetian Plaster, so this should come as no surprise.

True Venetian Plaster is an ancient building material which originates with lime and marble. Lime that can be brought up to a high polish, low polish, matte finish, and smooth to the touch.  It can also have a granular texture.

The term Venetian Plaster also can refer to the method of application.  Natural lime plasters have been around since the time of the ancient Egyptians and peoples of Antiquities. Originally, they were strictly used for the protection of structures. The Venetians took it to another level. They added natural pigment to add a decorative use both interior and Exterior.

Please be sure to ask to see our true Venetian Plaster sample boards - once you see the real thing, you will be amazed at the difference from synthetic!

What to expect during a consultation?

Long gone are the days where updating the décor in a room meant painting a wall a different color.  Rich texture, bold metallic, and stone-like finishes can be applied to walls, cabinets, and ceilings.

Your home can have a very strong impact on your life, so we take into consideration  wall finishes and color harmony in relationship to your furniture and existing decor - to achieve the final result.

Our goal is to create an appealing environment that exhibits balance and harmonizes with your existing decor.  Choosing the right finish and color requires knowledge of faux finishes, and an appreciation of quality aesthetics. We can guide you towards making a wise decision when selecting a wall finish.

During our consultation we will -

  1. Discuss your needs and desires
  2. Evaluate your existing color scheme, furniture, window treatments and accessories.
  3. We will consider & plan a harmonious theme between the furnishings and the background.
  4. We will help you to visualize the final outcome through the use of sample boards
  5. Offer an estimate
  6. Decide on a starting time

When it all comes down to the planning of any project, the biggest factor that has to be considered is cost.   Estimating any faux finish job is just not possible without first seeing the room, taking accurate measurements, and deciding what faux finish will be done.

In-home consultations usually last  1  1/2 to 2 hours at an hourly rate that is well within most people's budget.  Upon a written contract, this fee is deducted.

The bottom line is that hiring a professional will always help avoid costly mistakes.  Doing your homework helps educate you, and find the best person for the job.  We hope that we can be part of that process!
