The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he's always doing both. James A. First color choice done on the dining area, had been a Red Stucolux Finish. Homeowner then decided she preferred another color scheme.
Original White Walls
I offered a color choice to create warmth and a more upscale feeling to the room. The Red was a good strong color which may work in a larger room or on a signature wall. In this event, the next move was to begin another treatment, which would include the area under the chair rail as well. As well, as the ceiling to bring the whole room together.
This is where I encourage clients to look at what they might use for inspiration - to make the room their own. In this event, "J" thought about fashion, and said that what she likes is having a very nice black accessory, to go along with a fashionable outfit. Such as black shoes, or a black handbag.
This may seem funny, but creative thoughts can come from out of nowhere! And in this case, it worked beautifully! The black panels were then embellished with a foil stencil - like a fine piece of jewelry - and a nice finished touch to an elegant room.
The homeowner desired a technique in this foyer that continued up through the stairway into the upstairs hallway. A finish that resembled a stone-like texture was applied to the wall and complimented the wood flooring . The upper wall was embellished with a light texture of Lusterstone that enables this dark area to have some reflective qualities to soften the look. Pictures do not do justice to the reflective qualities of this finish - the look is a soft stonelike finish that give the Foyer a sophisticated look.
LusterStone was introduced in 2000 and has grown steadily in popularity ever since. LusterStone can be applied in a number of ways for various effects, and is available to the professional faux finisher.
LusterStone is known for its "visual texture," meaning it has the depth and shadings of other types of plaster, but is silky smooth to the touch.
It is appropriate in just about any room of the home, most frequently it is selected for more formal areas such as dining rooms, and more intimate spaces such as master baths and powder rooms. .
A dramatic change from plain painted walls to a beautiful decorative finish can now provide architectural interest and personality to an otherwise plain stairway.
One of the many challenges that come along with customizing work is understanding the client's vision. Then, taking into consideration the "lighting" and structure of the room, every attempt was made to create an atmosphere that fits the room and the personality of the Homeowner.
When working on a home decorative project, it is important to know that planning plays a major part in deciding a finish. Also all products used are specially ordered - so one can expect time allowances to be considered.
Sample boards are key, in helping the homeowner to see ahead of time what will be accomplished. While it is difficult to imagine a whole room's finish, it is easier to understand the qualities by examples.
